Committee History: Businesses draw on a highly-trained, educated workforce of approximately 24,000 people. They are heavily clustered along Elden Street, Herndon Parkway, Spring Street and Worldgate Drive with a mix that runs from small condo to high-rise structures along the Dulles Toll and Access Roads. As home to the nation's commercial Internet, Herndon early on boasted superb connectivity, securing for itself a reputation as a major tech center. Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology took up residence in Herndon as a state-sponsored institution that promotes technical innovation by linking Virginia colleges and universities. Office space represents 68% of total business space; retail accounts for 18% and industrial/ flex is about 14%.
